Set right in the heart of Bowness on Windermere village we specialise in relaxed accommodation mainly for couples wishing to take advantage of our perfect location for the Lake and boats, shops, restaurants, attractions and pubs.We do not accept bookings of more than 2 rooms together.It is the ideal base from which to explore some of the lake districts finest scenery made famous by such people as Wordworth and Coleridge. Cruise and enjoy the facilities that Lake Windermere has to offer.
Spend your days discovering those beautiful hidden places, marvel at the landscapes that enchant whatever the season, lush greenery of the forests and fells in the summer, the snow capped mountains in the winter. Then relax and unwind in the evening either at parklands country club (swimming pool,jacuzzi,sauna etc)free to all our guests or maybe sampling some of the fine cuisine on offer in the many restaurants. Later try one or even two of the quaint pubs around and about in bowness.Alternatively why not reserve our cinema room for a cosy night in with a good film and a bottle of wine.( we can also provide the popcorn )
Our rooms are either double or four poster rooms each having been individually redecorated to reflect the unique charm of Virginia Cottage. All rooms have en suite facilities, some with spa/jacuzzi bath.For a relaxing shower take a seat, switch on the radio and enjoy a hydro therapy multi jet shower now available in some rooms. Although not of hotel size every room comes equipped to hotel standard, with Tv and dvd player (we have over 150 dvd's available on request), radio cd player,hairdrier, fridge(wine/champagne/flowers/chocolates can be arranged for arrival) and complementary tea/coffee/chocolate/capuccino.
Complimentary sherry and homemade cakes are often available in our newly opened guest lounge.
At Virginia Cottage we know that a hearty breakfast is the best way to start the day and with that in mind we offer a wide selection of cereals along with fruit juice, grapefruit segments and yogurts to start folowed by a traditional full english breakfast or vegetarian option.
For a lighter alternative we offer ham and cheese, croissants, waffles and pancakes. If you have any special requests please let us know.

Where is the car parking ?
Our car park is approx 20 yards away within the Belsfield Hotel grounds.It is the first entrance on the right after passing Virginia Cottage.There has never been a safety problem to date.
What is the location like ?
Bowness is a very busy village for most of the year. If you are looking for a country retreat do not come to Bowness as it is a major tourist attraction for the Lakes.There are numerous restaurants, shops and pubs within a very short walk.
What are the rooms like ?
Every room has been completely redecorated in keeping with the tradition of a beautiful cottage, from Toile to Laura Ashley. We have incorporated modern facilities without the modern retro type styling. Cosy, charming and unique it is but modern contemporary it is not. ( view the room pictures )
Can we have a lake view ?
Although one of the closest to the lake we cannot quite see it.
Can we book a wedding party or stag night ?
Please do not book more than 2 rooms as a group as it will be cancelled. Our accommodation is for couples.
When is breakfast served ?
Breakfast is now served between 8.45am and 9.30am. If an early breakfast is required simply let us know.
A few guest comments refer to a water pressure problem. How bad is it ?
We have installed hydro therapy jet showers in a number of rooms. We have now completed an extensive improvement to our hot water which now runs off a mains pressure system. The showers/spa and jacuzzi baths are now working to their full capacity.(from 12th June 06)
How much extra are spa/jacuzzi baths ?
We wish to provide the many extras such as sherry/cakes/spa/jacuzzi/multijet showers/dvd hire/cinema room hire to make your stay that little bit special, not for our financial benefit.If you enjoy your stay we are happy.
