Whether holidaying or planning a business conference, our facilities at the Grand will make your visit to Torbay a memorable one. Our friendly and dedicated staff ensure that your stay will be as relaxing as possible.

Nestling in an area of outstanding natural beauty and only minutes drive from Dartmoor National Park, Torquay offers a taste of the Exquisite. A climate unrivalled on the mainland of Britain with sandy beaches and breathtaking views.

The Grand Hotel was built on the seafront in 1881, where the Great Western Railway met the coast. Originally the 12-bedroom hotel was named The Great Western Hotel, after the railway. Before the turn of the century it was sold and the name was changed to The Grand Hotel.

Our most famous guest was Agatha Christie, one of the world's greatest crime and mystery writers. She was born in Torquay on September 15 1890. Agatha was the youngest child of Frederick Alvah Miller, a wealthy American expatriate, and his English wife, Clarissa Boechmer and was educated at home by her parents. In 1913 Agatha met Archibald Christie, a young army officer and they were married in 1914.

The Grand Hotel, with its extensive conference and banqueting facilities, is the perfect venue for your successful event. Our friendly, professional and dedicated staff will ensure that the stresses and strains of organising a conference are non-existent and that your event will run trouble-free.

We have a wide range of Conference and Banqueting facilities to suit every occasion - from 2 persons to 300. Our facilities include:-

- Secretarial
- Translation
- Conference Office
- Themed Events

At Toppers Leisure Club you can relax, unwind and let the hours slip by. Our complex includes a seasonally heated outdoor pool, indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym, sun bed, full size snooker table and all weather tennis courts.

Dine in our award-winning Gainsborough Restaurant with its impeccable service, fine wines and excellent cuisine.

Surrounded by some of England's most beautiful countryside, Torbay is known as The English Riviera. Quite apart from the outstanding natural beauty of the area, Torquay is one of the most stylish resorts in Britain.
